The definition of consistency.

kantin

The Cashier at Kantin, Super 88, International Food Court.

Is this guy ever absent? 5 PM, 10 PM, weekday, weekend, Christmas Day. The ultimate in efficient but minimalist customer service, is the fastest sales tax calculator in Massachusetts. No one is so reluctant to take your credit card for a $5.95 meal.

Yet, somehow, seeing him there every time I go -- makes me feel like I'm coming home.

a higher ed note on Palin

0_61_palin_sarah

There are enough people in my demographic blasting the VP candidate for the Republican Party, and so I don't need to add any of my own feelings of being underwhelmed as one who generally votes conservative. However, i was intrigued by how the lashing of tongues centered on her colloquial speaking and phrases like "six pack" and "hockey mom". It made me wonder whether we are the best judge of who "wins" a debate. Aren't we making a culturally located judgement as the "liberal elitists from the Northeast"?

Some numbers:

46% of Americans have a high school diploma OR less
27% of Americans have attained a Bachelors OR more
(the rest have an Associates or some college)
http://chronicle.com/weekly/almanac/2008/nation/nation.htm

While I understand that educational attainment doesn't completely determine (1) ability to understand the debate; (2) critical thinking skills; or (3) whether you remember who is leading the troops in Afghanistan -- but it sure DON'T HURT. After all, if our President wants to get elected, there's a lot more people besides those of us who graduated from the schools we did.

I suppose it irks me when people blast McPalin as being "simple-minded", "having no new ideas", and "being out of touch". But the numbers don't lie. It's WE who are out of touch.

ESV?

I lost the Bible my wife gave me.  Sheesh.  some husband I am.

Any thoughts on a new bible?  My inclination is towards this one:

Reformation Study Bible (English Standard Version)

It might be nice to have a study bible... And i've heard this one comes highly recommended while still being squarely in the literal interpretations...
